Many of our courses require no prior musical qualifications, have no upper age limits, and you don’t need any equipment at home. We offer more studio access than any other UK equivalent – so if you want to make the School of Electronic Music your second home, you can do.
SEM is BAC accredited. The BAC provide a comprehensive quality assurance scheme for independent further and higher education in the UK. Their accreditation is recognised the world over by students, agents and government officials as the clearest mark of educational quality.
Next Open Day Saturday July 14th 12pm – 3pm
Free music production courses
These courses run monthly, and will give you a concise, hands-on overview of processes, software and equipment that goes into turning the musical ideas in your head into music through the speakers.
After a tour of our studios, we’ll have a practical music workshop in our Midi Lab. Here you’ll program drum beats, and write in melody and bass lines in the genre of your choosing using Mac and PC compatible Ableton Live. You’ll finish having structured and written some great musical ideas, which can take away an mp3 of, along with a free month’s trial of Ableton Live so you can carry on learning at home.
We are the only UK Music Technology School who run free monthly music production taster courses. If you’re a total beginner or have tried software demos and want to learn more, this course is for you.
What people are saying about the school
I’m working through the Online Ableton Course so far, but I’ve already done tuition at the school. What’s interesting is that it does take a moment for the penny to drop, and I like the pauses you have left in. It works very well for beginners.
When I look back at my experiences in School of Electronic Music, there is no doubt that those were some of the most crucial stages in my development. The staff don’t forget you either which makes it all the more special.
I’ve achieved many life long goals as a result of studying at SEM. I’ve released my first independent track, signed to a well-known Artist Management company and have been lucky enough to be playing at Glastonbury. It’s a dream come true.
I would like to thank DJ Mark One for a magical day that I attended on the DJ Taster course. I would also like to point out to his management team what a superb job he does, he’s an excellent ambassador for the school and truly inspirational.
I really enjoyed today’s lesson. I loved witnessing how you made that track sound so much better and the idea of me doing that in the future is really exciting. Really looking forward to the coming weeks.
I strongly feel that you can’t put a price on face to face tuition rather then books, websites, magazines and so on. The staff at the Midi school are some of the best in their fields and you will learn from every word they speak so take lots of notes!
